EMMAUS SWIMMING TRYOUTS

TRY OUTS!-- 2 DAYS OF EVALUATION TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT

PHYSICAL CONDITION

  • 10x100s @ 1:30 with 3 hand hits off each wall before a breath.

This shows overall fitness and discipline with breath control, flip turns, and streamlining.

  • 4 x 100s BENCH MARKS for time in IM order

Each swimmer has his/her time recorded for evaluation-- ability to evaluate all strokes, starts & turns, and the ability to race

  • 300K for time with a kickboard

Each swimmer has his/her time recorded for evaluation-- ability to evaluate Kick power, speed, and endurance, and the ability to race

  • Coachability (being on time and prepared, following directions, working in your lane cooperatively, being able to lean your lane for a set, and being aware of the clock and proper send-offs, being a student-athlete, etc.)

EVALUATION

  • Overall Rankings--- These 2 days simply show the staff what you have been doing since last season OR if you are a first-year swimmer, it provides insight as to your ability to adapt as well.
  • Have you improved or evolved positively over the past year
  • Working well in a lane with others
  • Helping Set Up and Clean Up the pool
  • Coachability--- the ability to be corrected and then implement the correction
  • COMMITMENT-- Are you committed to the entire season? Do you have vacations planned, appointments made, etc., which will prevent your commitment?

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE SEASON:

  1. Practices are at least 2 hours, and sometimes 2 and a half or even 3 hours daily (Mon-Sat)
  2. Expect to practice over Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks, along with other holidays in January and February. Throughout the season, on days off from school or half days, we still practice.
  3. The season begins around mid-November and runs to at least mid-February and no longer than mid-March
  4. The practice may also involve dryland sessions with YOGA, running, stretching, and strength training. Running Sneakers and dryland clothing, along with a jump rope, are needed.
  5. Unwavering support for our program and our student-athletes' future development.

Facilities that offer training and/or pool time for your training before the season.

  1. Most summer pools offer some sort of team or lap swim
  2. Allentown YMCA
  3. Allentown JCC
  4. Cedar Crest College- Rodale Aquatic Center
  5. Emmaus Aquatic Club

Please enter Allen High School from Turner Street, through the gated lot indicated on the map below.

You can park in the lot, as well as the parking garage (the "Do Not Enter" sign is only during school hours). Enter the facility through the doors at the top of the steps (to the left of the parking garage). Once inside, walk up the steps and turn left at the top of the landing (away from the gymnasium). Walk through the doors, down the hallway, and turn right. Walk down this hallway and you will see the pool deck entrance on your left.
